(WNBA player prop bet odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Chennedy Carter Under 19.5 Points (-105)
The Chicago guard has been lighting up the scoreboard as of late, successfully exceeding 19.5 points in the last 5-of-7 games. However, playing a road game on the tail end of a back-to-back, against one of the top defensive teams in the league, is not what most would call ideal.
New York not only limits the opposition to the lowest amount of points off second-chance opportunities (8.7), but they also allow the least amount of free-throw attempts per game (14.3), and only give up 10 fast break points each contest.
Betnijah Laney-Hamilton missed yesterday’s game against Connecticut due to a knee injury. This was labeled as a precautionary measure more than anything, so expect one of the toughest defensive guards in the league to make things difficult for Carter.
The Sky guard just missed this total yesterday with 19 points. We feel there’s a good chance she also falls short in a tough spot today as well.
Jonquel Jones Over 9.5 Rebounds (+100)
The veteran forward heads into what should be a very physical contest against Chicago. Typically, we would recommend staying away from higher rebounding totals on the second leg of a back-to-back. Nevertheless, this looks like too good of a spot to pass up on.
Jonquel Jones has recently eclipsed 10 or more rebounds in the previous 6-of-7 contests. Furthermore, she also pulled down 12 boards the last time these two teams faced each other on June 4.
Chicago is the top rebounding team in the WNBA, boasting an average of 36.7 boards each contest. This is a tad misleading, considering the team is only averaging 25.3 defensive rebounds per game while conceding 8.5 rebounds on the offensive end. The Sky also own the second-worst shooting percentage in the league.
All signs are pointing to a contest that will provide ample opportunity for Jones to clear 9.5 rebounds for a plus reward.
Kamilla Cardoso Over 8.5 Rebounds (-115)
The first selection of the 2024 Draft for Chicago has stepped into a full-time role over the last month and has been an absolute force on the glass. In the previous 11 contests, Kamilla Cardoso is averaging 9.9 rebounds, including six games with 10 or more.
Angel Reese, the WNBA’s rebounding leader is the main rebounding option for the Sky. However, Cardoso has contributed 23 offensive boards in the last five games, along with 25 of the defensive variety.
Due to New York playing yesterday, along with the poor shooting average for the Sky, there’s good reason to feel confident that some extra rebounds will be available for the Chicago forward in this contest.
Breanna Stewart Over 18.5 Points (-110)
Breanna Stewart gets a favorable matchup against a Chicago team that may not have an answer for her propensity to score away from the basket. The Sky also allow three points more against Eastern Conference teams and give up the second-highest amount of second-chance points (12.7).
The New York forward can score 20+ in any given contest. The fact there could be some extra opportunities to score only strengthens our confidence.
Stewart is coming off a game where she only attempted nine shots, her fewest of the season since the very first game. Typically, the reigning MVP has followed up with 15 attempts or more after such an underwhelming performance.
The top-scoring option for the Liberty has fallen short of 18.5 points in three games straight. However, it would be quite surprising if that streak continues following this contest.
Marina Mabrey Under 12.5 Points (-125)
To her credit, Marina Mabrey has scored a combined 36 points in the two prior matchups against New York this season. A glaring issue for this contest is the fact that this will be Chicago’s third game in five days. This follows a four-game road trip. Now the Sky head to New York, and then back to Chicago again for another meeting with the Liberty on Saturday.
Mabrey has not exactly played well as of late. She has only cleared 12.5 points one time in five games and is shooting an abysmal 28% from the field over that stretch.
New York is only allowing 77.5 points each contest while holding opponents to 42% from the field, and 33% from beyond the arc. In the month of July, teams are only scoring 72.7 points per game against The Liberty. They also own the fourth-highest defensive rating in the league.
History seems to be on the side of the Chicago guard, at least in regard to the 2024 season. Situation, as well as fatigue, on the other hand, are most certainly not.
Enjoy the game today, and good luck with your picks!
