#RugbyvFootball – Rugby World Cup winner to face West Ham United star at the oche

Exhibition match to take place at the Betway Premier League darts final at London’s O2 Arena

The #RugbyvFootball argument is set for a new twist as Rugby World Cup winner Mike Tindall takes on West Ham United’s Joey O’Brien in a leg of 501 at The O2 later this month – live on stage at the Betway Premier League darts final.

Both are used to performing in front of thousands of fans but how will they fare under the spotlights of the famous venue on Thursday 21 May?

Betway ambassador Tindall is the red-hot favourite at 1/6. He will line up against 3/1 shot O’Brien after the Irons full-back beat teammates Carlton Cole, James Collins, Carl Jenkinson, Kevin Nolan, Diego Poyet, Winston Reid and Alex Song in our #HammersAtTheArrers tungsten tournament at the club’s training ground.

The only thing missing is a darts nickname for the throwers – and we’re giving our Twitter and Facebook followers the chance to christen the challengers.

The two entrants that come up with the best names, as judged by the players themselves, will receive VIP tickets to the Betway Premier League darts final, where they will meet Tindall and O’Brien, as well as the rest of the West Ham squad who will be there to cheer him on.

“I’ve played in a World Cup final, watched my horse run in the Grand National and even stared down the barrel of a ski jump – but preparing for this will be a whole new experience,” said Tindall. “I look forward to seeing the nickname suggestions – I’m sure some of my old teammates would like the chance to enter!”

O’Brien said: “Having beaten the lads, I had better put on a good show at The O2 otherwise the stick will be unbearable.”

“#RugbyvFootball is the age-old debate that has never been settled, so we thought it was time to look at it another way.” said Alan Alger,

“Joey might be the man in form after beating the rest of the West Ham team to get to The O2, but years of throwing a rugby ball make Mike odds-on favourite for the match. Who will win? There’s only one way to find out – let’s play darts!”
